As opposed to irony

We mean what we say, we also mean other things.I've been having a problem with irony lately - especially here in Toronto. I want to keep working on it, since I used to like it a lot and felt like it could do some useful things. But recently I've been seeing it as a defensive and unuseful. So I'm trying to work with the above. Mutliple meanings are great - but I want people to mean what they say.
